Mariners Get Hot vs. Tigers

Fun at Safeco. Having lunch with one of my friends from the Mariners’ front office about a month ago, we were talking about future home games. My friend recommended the first Friday night game at Safeco. We figured out when Felix Hernandez would be pitching, and it just happened to be against the Detroit Tigers — my husband’s ‘other’ team. So we bought 4 tickets, including 2 for our friends from Detroit (who now live here). Imagine our excitement when we found they were right behind home plate!!! Great seats, the weather was good (even though the roof was closed in case of rain), and the M’s bats got hot! We got to our seats, and here was the view — awesome! And right behind us, our friend the cartoonist, Brian Basset, who creates ‘Adam’ and ‘Red and Rover.’

No Griffey bobbleheads for us. The M’s were giving out Griffey bobbleheads to the first 30,000 fans to enter Safeco. We got there right during the national anthem, so needless to say we were way too late for bobbleheads. Luckily, the two boys next to me got bobbleheads, but of course, they also got there at 4:30pm to stand in line to make sure they got them. Best I could do was take a picture with my phone.

Great Game for 40,000 fans. We did see a great game, with the Mariners going on to win 11-2. And Felix was dealing. Even Rob Johnson said Felix’s pitches were tough to catch and had all kinds of movement on them. But it was just fun to be at the ballpark, people-watch, catch a bag of peanuts from Rick the Peanut Guy, do the wave, and cheer on the M’s.
