WSU Cougars from A to Z

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE : Alumna Authors Amazing Fact-filled Picture Book of WSU

‘WSU Cougars from A to Z’ Featured at Book Signings in Pullman and Seattle

SEATTLE, WashingtonWashington State University alumna Carla Nellis is the featured author at a series of book signings in the Pacific Northwest with the successful launch of her book, WSU Cougars from A to Z. Nellis reveals fun and little-known facts about WSU, such as the movie for which Ferdinand’s was named, how a class project led to the Cougar Fight song, and why live cougars once traveled with the football team.

Nellis is a longtime elementary teacher who wants to encourage children in higher education.  “I have always wanted to write a book and I love picture books,” said Nellis “I’m also fascinated by history and a Coug. So when you combine those passions with all these amazing facts I found about WSU, I knew this was the book I was meant to write.”

The father-daughter team of watercolor artists Stephan Moss and Naphtali Morden illustrated WSU Cougars from A to Z. They capture the spirit of Washington State University in their paintings, including downtown Pullman, Martin Stadium, and the Victory Bell. “The illustrations had to be spot on,” said Nellis. “Stephan and Naphtali have done a wonderful job portraying important moments in Cougar history, as well as landmarks on campus that everyone will recognize.” Nellis also features unique historical photos, showing key figures in WSU history and memorable campus events in the book.

Already, WSU Cougars from A to Z is getting a big response from alumni and Cougar fans. “Nellis’ work provides a short-course in Cougar history, including many facts, photos, and expressive poems framed within the 26 letters of the alphabet,” said C. James Quann, WSU Registrar Emeritus, and Coordinator, Veteran’s Research. “This book is a must read for Cougars young and old, as well as future Cougars.”

Nellis will be signing books at The Bookie on the WSU campus on September 8, from 9am to noon, and after the Cougar football game from 4:30 – 6:30pm.  The talented author will also be signing copies of her book at the Bookie again on September 22, as well as in Seattle during WSU’s Seattle Week leading up to the football game on September 29 against Oregon at CenturyLink Field.
